Is the Private Pilot Multi Engine necessary?

Im a Private Pilot working on my instrument rating, after that my school wants me to get a Private Pilot Multi Engine and after that I can apply for the Commercial Multi Engine... Do I need a Private Pilot Multi Engine to apply for a Commercial Multi Engine? or can I apply to the Commercial Multi Engine with my Private Pilot Single Engine with Instrument Rating

    If you are doing your training under part 141, then you can go straight from ASEL to Commercial Multi – Engine. No need to get the MEL before the other. My school did the initial multi-engine check ride combined with the Commercial Multi-Engine Check ride.

    Sometimes it makes sense to do the private ME rating first. Remember, once you have the ME rating, any time spent training with the instructor for the ME commercial counts as the coveted ME PIC since you are already rated in that category and class.

    I have asked you if you are doing your course under part 141 is that some flight schools has their part 141 approval from the FAA to have the students carry out the PPL ME course first before doing the CPL ME however if you want to go and do the CPL ME without having to do the PPL ME just find out a school which will do your CPL ME under part 61 then you wont need to do your PPL ME first

    however what Doug Betts said it’s completely true any training and extra training to be spent on ME airplanes is worth it because its a complete different experience and other then what you a have used to do when flying a single engine you need to be 2 to 4 steps ahead of it and ME are faster then SE
