Expired Heli to Airplane CFI

Asked by: 5783 views FAA Regulations

Hi everyone!

I'm currently a commercial helicopter pilot with private airplane SEL. My CFI Rotorcraft helicopter expired nearly two years ago.

My question being, What do i have to accomplish (other than an instrument rating and comm add on) to receive a fixed wing CFI? Because of my expired rotor cfi, do i now need to take writtens? Or do my past writtens count? Would this be considered an add on, or would i have to reinstate my rotor cfi for that to be the case?

I am asking in reference to FAA regs.

Thanks!

To add on the CFI-A rating, you do not need to take the FOI written test again.  Reference 61.191.  However, you do need to take a shortened CFI-H test consisting of 25 questions.  Lasergrade Website.

You must comply with the requirements in 61.183.  You do not need to first reinstate your CFI-H license before obtaining the CFI-A license.  When you satisfactorily pass the CFI-A test, the CFI-H is also reinstated.  Reference 61.199.

So I need to take a shortened CFI A? OR H. Written? Just want to be sure.

Sorry for the late response. You’ll need to take the shortened CFI-A exam. My previous post was misleading. Sorry about that.
