Can I log dual given in an airplane that I rented from a local flight school?

    You can also log it if the aircraft is stolen or unairworthy.

    I’m trying to understand the context of the question. Both Russ’ and KDS’ answers are correct. So long as it’s an instructional flight with an appropriately rated CFI and learner, the FAA is fine with it.

    But it sounds like there’s gotta be a “rest of the story.” Perhaps a non-affiliated CFI who is teaching in a rental aircraft in violation of the lessor/FBO/flight school/flying club rules?
