I fly into KCLT for some Class B practice. As normal I am assigned the Knights Three. So fly runway heading to 4000 expect vectors in 10 min. BUT if I was assigned the DEBIE transition how would I fly it? Would I do a turn to the CLT/VOR then outbound on the R-255 OR would ground give specific instructions?

    The SID guidance is to “expect RADAR vectors to intercept filed/assigned transition or enroute fix/navaid, maintain 4000” portion is not the “expect vectors in 10 min” as you wrote. The 10 minute is to expect your filed altitude. So the you are going to get vectors to the ANDYS transition route which is the CLT 196 radial to ANDYS. ATC is not going to vector you to CLT but rather to somewhere on the CLT 196 radial. The SID ends at the last common fix, which is CLT, so if you were to file the SID without a transition, you would file KCLT KNI3.CLT … and the vector would be to join the route defined between CLT and your first fix. With the route KCLT KNI3.ANDYS, if you went NORDO before or during the vector to the assigned transition, you would proceed to intercept the 196 radial, climbing to 4000 and after 10 minutes climb to your cruise altitude. The only time you would navigate to CLT is if you were well north of CLT and intercepting the 196 radial begins at CLT. Otherwise, you just intercept the radial beyond CLT. This is in compliance with lost com guidance for the route to be flown specified in 91.185(c)(1)(ii):

    If being radar vectored, by the direct route from the point of radio failure to the fix, route, or airway specified in the vector clearance;
