Wings Phase in lieu of traditional Flight Review

Asked by: 802 views Flight Instructor, Private Pilot

Looking for thoughts regarding pros/cons...

As a CFI, do you prefer Wings phases instead of a traditional Flight Review from a liability standpoint? Clearly the activities need to be performed to the appropriate ACS standards, but what if more than one CFI conducts an activity?

There is no requirement for a CFI to endorse per 61.56 if a PIC has a certificate completing a Wings Phase, correct?

Any thoughts welcome.

Yes, if signing off on the Wings phase and entering in on faasaafety.gov, the flight review comes from the faa. No need for a flight review endorsement.

I don’t see any difference in terms of CFI liability.

    I do both.

I’m a fan of Wings. I just used it for the first time for my most recent CFI renewal, in lieu of an eFIRC.

When I do a CAP “Form 5” each year to be a CAP glider pilot, that activity results in 5 or 6 required credits. Easy.

With the current NPRM to remove the expiration date from CFI certificates it will be incumbent upon the CFI to prove meeting the requirements to “renew” every 24 calendar months. Perform 15 wings flight credits for at least five different pilots in the previous 24 calendar months and the requirement is met.
