Part 141 cmel add on

Asked by: 817 views Commercial Pilot, FAA Regulations

Does commercial add on require all 55 hours to be dual. There’s specific language in appendix D (initial comm) and appendix I (add on). Appendix D says with a certified instructor and appendix I says 55 hours of training.

A part 141 school will have all of the details laid out. But, Initial and Add-On are two separate situations.

Initial means that you do not hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate in any category. Add-On means that you currently have a Commercial Certificate and want to add an additional category or class to the certificate.

141 Apex D requires a minimum of 55 hours of flight training from a CFI in category and class for an initial Commercial with a category of Airplane (class of Single Engine Land) certificate.

141 Apex I also requires a minimum of 55 hours of flight training from a CFI to “Add-On” a new CATEGORY i.e. – Airplane with a class of Single Engine Land, to a existing Commercial certificate with different category, say Helicopter.

To Add-On a new CLASS to your current Commercial Pilot – Airplane SEL Certificate. For example – Airplane Multiengine Land you would need a minimum of 10 hours of flight training from a CFI-MEI in a multiengine airplane.
