Helicopter CFI to FW PPL

Asked by: 772 views Commercial Pilot, FAA Regulations, Helicopter, Private Pilot

Here yet another Regs question.

Im a helicopter CPL CFI with over 3000hrs of flight trying to get a simple PPL as i want to buy a small plane for fun.

Whats the regs here? do i have to do the 20dual+10solo? Someone told me I can be PIC endorsed from the get go as im already a CPL?

If someone would be so kind to run it down id be very grateful.

cheers

    Added Category
    61.63(b)(1)
Must have the training and experience.
    Private (SEL)
    61.109
    (a) does not specify category/class – you should meet this already, but…
(a)(1)-(a)(5) refers specifically to SEL experience.

    Good luck.

    What awair said.

No written required. Checkride required. 61.109, anything that says “in a single engine airplane.”

The sample endorsement in 61.65H doesn’t have an expiration date. I always include one!

Your existing Commercial includes Sport privileges. You may use the Sport Pilot rules to add on ASEL at the sport level via training with one instructor and an assessment by a second. Then send off some paperwork.

With the new MOSAIC rules likely to take effect next year, you should be able to fly a 172-ish airplane as a Sport Pilot. Limits – one passenger, under 10,000 feet, not at night.

If you are IFR rated, you can do Airplane IFR in 15 hours. But you need Private or higher.

If you started w/ Sport, you could then do Commercial (instead of paying for a Private checkride) then the IFR checkride.

Why IFR second? 1) You need some time building for Commercial, so the IFR training time helps there and 2) you can’t add IFR to Sport, but you can to Commercial.

You can take a Commercial checkride in a Sport Airplane.
