PIC Typed flying as an SIC

Asked by: 811 views , ,
FAA Regulations

I'm PIC typed in turbojet but fly as an FO. My company assured me that I can log all my hours as PIC regardless of if I'm the sole monitor or not. I searched everywhere and asked a few dpe and can't seem to find a straight answer.

Your company needs to take a closer read of 61.51e. Which category of PIC logging do they think you meet?

It’s pretty simple in your case. As a PIC type rated pilot, you can log PIC any time you are the sole manipulator, or assuming it’s a 2-crew aircraft, any time you are acting as the PIC (i.e. “signing” for the plane).

You say you’re not the acting PIC and are the FO(SIC). So, you only get to log PIC when you’re sole manipulator. Any other time is SIC.

I’d be curious where your company’s interpretation comes from, because it’s not supported in 61.51.

Absolutely agree with Russ. I am typed in a Lear. I fly as a contract 135 both as PIC and SIC when I am filling SIC I only log “sole manipulator of the controls” as PIC. I’m also a DPE and I would not accept all of your time as PIC if you are filling an FO position.

    Agree with the two comments.
