Getting back into instructing

Asked by: 811 views Flight Instructor

I spent a year as a flight instructor from 2012 to 2013, but I have not instructed since then. I've maintained my licenses with FIRC's, but those don't keep the rust off when you have not been in the instructing game for a decade. I have also been flying professionally since 2014. Are there any recommendations for getting back into instructing as an independent CFI-I and MEI?

I did this just recently — I hadnt taught for over a decade but kept my CFI current the whole time. I took on a new private student about 3 months ago.

I did a couple things to get ready. I signed up at Sporty\’s CFI portal and reviewed the private pilot materials. I hired an instructor for 4-5 hours to run through the basics with me in the right seat.

I picked a syllabus to use – I settled on the new AOPA AFTA program and I love it.

Then I just jumped in. It\’s come back much easier that I expected…..

    Best of luck to you…..
