Fixed-Wing CFI/CFII Add On to Helicopter CFI/CFII

Asked by: 1958 views , , , ,
Flight Instructor, Helicopter

What would be required of me to add a fixed-wing CFI/CFII onto my helicopter CFI/CFII certificate? I have a commercial/instrument SEL certificate and approx. 1,000 hours in SEL aircraft. I'm a military helicopter instructors and achieved my helicopter CFI/CFII through the Military Competency Instructor written exam. Would I need to take an additional written, or just an oral and practical exam with a DPE? Thank you in advance for whatever help you can offer!

61.191 deals with additional ratings on a Flight Instructor certificate.

It requires that you meet the eligibility requirements of 61.183, but it does exempt you from needing to be tested on the FOI material.

61.183(f) requires that you pass a knowledge test appropriate to the rating sought.

The test you will need to take is the AFA test for an additional rating for Airplanes.
It is a 25 question test.

There is no minimum number of hours of dual needed. You just need to train to proficiency to be able to teach all the airplane maneuvers. See the Practical Test Standard.
