Changing Student’s Solo Limitations

Asked by: 1603 views
FAA Regulations, Flight Instructor

A previous flight instructor signed my student off to solo. Their weather limitations were extremely high (i.e. no clouds below 10,000ft, visibility 10 miles). I want to amend the student's solo weather limitations. AC 61-65 doesn't offer guidance. How do I write the Limitations? Can I make the limitations different for pattern work vs. a specific cross-country?

Just write them however you feel is necessary. There’s no magic to endorsements, the examples in 61-65 are just examples of how they could be worded (which most people just use since then there’s no question they’re okay).

    So, something like:

Limitations: local/pattern work 3000-5, wind, x-wind, etc. Cross Country flights 5000-10, wind, x-wind, etc. Must contact me before flight. Must provide a 12-pack of my favorite microbrew after flight. Etc.

    Especially the 12-pack!
