Student From a Previous Instructor

Hello, I am a CFI who is picking up a private pilot SEL student, who has done all of his necessary part 61 training with a different instructor, possesses all of his endorsements from that instructor, expect the ones needed for his check-ride. I will be the one signing him off for the check-ride. What are the regulations regarding me signing him off for the private pilot check-ride, considering I was not the one who did all of his training? Thanks! (First post on here)

Same as if it were your own student.

You know those three logbook endorsements the recommending instructor needs to sign and the one from the application saying, “I have personally instructed the applicant and consider this person ready to take the test”?

You need to be able to truthfully sign all of them.

Practically speaking. that means, at a minimum, enough time on the ground and in the air with the student to salsify yourself the student is ready to pass. That’s going to be different with any student/instructor combination.

Fabio@SLC, I guess you’ve already asked him why he needs to change instructors so late in the game. Be careful. A phone call to his instructor is warranted here.

Thank you Mark! I appreciate the help. Gary, I am picking up a student from a fellow flight instructor who had to move to another state. I keep in touch with that instructor often, just wanted to clarify things on here. But it is good advice for the future, thank you!
