Where can I find a Recommending Instructor (RI) to sign off on my UAV certificate application?

Asked by: 5299 views , , ,
FAA Regulations

I recently passed the FAA UAV exam and proceeded to IACRA to apply for the certificate. After completing the process I was instructed by notes online at the IACRA site that I would have to have my application "processed by a Recommending Instructor (RI) or Certifying Officer (CO)". Where do I find an FAA RI or CO? I have tried calling the FSDO in Atlanta to schedule an appointment but I don't know if it is in operation during the pandemic. Any help is appreciated.

Any flight instructor can sign it. Your local flight school would probably do if for free if you ask nicely.

Assuming you are already a pilot, a flight instructor that you have an existing relationship with would be my first stop. I’ve done these before, and since I already know the person, it only takes a few minutes and I consider it a gesture of continued goodwill and don’t charge them anything. No trip to the FSDO is necessary.
