Starting Instrument training and not sure where to start

Asked by: 1649 views Private Pilot

I am a brand new Private pilot and want to start Instrument training soon. I was wondering what would I need to study before and what would I need to purchase (charts, books, etc.)?

Best idea is to ask that question of the instructor or school you plan to use. They will likely have a syllabus and can recommend books and other materials that will fit with that syllabus.

I’d start with looking at the Instrument Flying Handbook and the Instrument Procedures Handbook.

Both can be found on the FAA’s website:
