ADF/DME for IFR Training?

Hi - I about to start IFR training in a plane that has a g500 and g650 (and i think a backup g450?) which from what i understand is certified for all and any type of VOR/ILS or GPS approach.

 

I've started to watch the Sporty's series and they have a few videos on DME approaches that are quite painful to follow. I haven't seen a definitive answer on the Internet that says i don't need any knowledge of ADF and DME for the IFR knowledge test or checkride. Can i just ignore ADF and DME altogether and never have to think about it again?

    I believe they had removed the ADF/NDB stuff a couple of years ago from the knowledge exam. Not sure about DME but probably worth brushing up on, at least from the standpoint of the DME arc on approaches, or using to determine a fix based on distance.

    I would agree with ayavner with the addition that you should be able to explain use of substitution for DME using your GPS and be able to fly approaches where DME and or ADF is required. Note you can’t fly a procedure that uses VOR or NDB for the final approach segment without having the actual equipment installed and operating and monitoring it for the final approach course.
