Can I replace my paper logbook with an electronic spreadsheet?

I use the excel pilot logbook (it's an excel spreadsheet) as a backup but want to know if I can use this instead of my paper logbook?

    Take a look at Advisory Circular 120-78A. It deals with Electronic Signatures and Electronic Records.

    Electronic records must be unalterable once a digital signature has been applied. I don’t know that an Excel spreadsheet can incorporate the level of security and accountability necessary.
