Part 61 Private & Instrument, then part 141 Commercial

Asked by: 2095 views ,
FAA Regulations

I want to make sure I'm reading 141 Appendix D right. There is absolutely no reason I couldn't do private and instrument Part 61, then commercial at a Part 141 -- right?

I know a lot of people do their private 61 then switch for instrument and beyond; I may have reasons to do the above, because my private is going quicker than I'd expected but I'm not moving to the location of my 141 until later, so I'm considering getting the instrument rating out of the way. I know it means I'll take my Commercial checkride with more total hours, but I'll take it sooner, too.

Thanks!

Your understanding is correct. People go between Part 141 and Part 61 programs in both directions. In the grand scheme of things, the differences are small. If you’re not on a VA or some other program that requires you to be in a Part 141 school, the choice is more one of which school best suits your individual needs. There are good and not so good schools operating both Part 61 and Part 141.
