BFR lapse and instrument currency

Asked by: 2118 views
FAA Regulations

Hi, I accidently let my BFR lapse by a few days . I have one scheduled next week,   I am instrument current but need 4 more approaches by the end of the month to  stay current . Do I have to have an IPC after the BFR or can I just shoot 4 approaches before the end of the month.  Thanks much.

The only thing you cannot do is ACT as the PIC. You can go shoot approaches now with an instructor or another pilot who would act as PIC. If you’re renting an airplane, ensure the FBO understands who the PIC is if it is a pilot friend. However, if you’re still within the first six months of instrument currency, you can do the approaches and other requirements much later than the end of this month, you just wouldn’t be able to accept an IFR clearance.

However, the best solution would be to do your four approaches, intercepting and tracking, and holding during the course of your flight review. Just let the instructor know in advance that is what you would like to do.
