Reimbursement for flight

Asked by: 1735 views ,

Two semi-related questions. I did search for this and answers are unclear if they apply to my situation.

My friend and I would like to fly to Blacksburg to catch a Virginia Tech game. I told him I can't fly because I have no $$$. He offered to pay for the plane rental. Can he do that legally? Or can we legally split it?

2nd, someone would like me to take pictures of their business from the air. Again, I'm tapped out. Can he pay for the engine time?

#1 is about the clearest example there can be of two friends properly *splitting* the cost of a flight under 61.113(c).

#2 is just as clearly someon paying for a flight service. In this case, it aerial photography. If you are a current commercial pilot, he can pay for the whole thing, plus a fee for you under 119.1(e)(iii), but you can’t get anything of value in exchange under 61.113(a).
