Using a AATD for commercial complex time

Asked by: 2089 views ,

The commercial aeronautical experiences, 61.129(a)(3)(ii), says that 10 hours of training in an airplane that has a retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller, is required. My question is, can I do that in a FAA approved AATD flight simulator? (I know that the training required for the complex endorsement can be given in a AATD instead of an actual airplane).

That would be airplane only. If it were anything else it would be specified with an “or.”

Note the wording: “10 hours of training in an airplane ” vs.

“Received and logged ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a complex airplane, or in a flight simulator or flight training device “
