Complex endorsement in a multi-engine aircraft

Asked by: 1998 views FAA Regulations

I hold private ASEL. I want to receive my high performance endorsement. Is there anything in 61.31 preventing me from receiving this endorsement in a Cessna 310, Citation X, or amphibious caravan,  even though I don't hold the class ratings for those aircraft?

There is nothing in 61.31(f) which would preclude what you suggest. What would probably stop most people from pursuing the course you outline is lack of disposable income. Most people try to accomplish things in the simplest (cheapest) aircraft available. I did my Single Engine ATP in a Piper Archer.

61.31(f)(1)(i) does require ground and flight instruction and that you be proficient in the operation and systems of the airplane. It would require significantly more time, instruction and money for you to become familiar with the systems and operation of a Citation X or even a 310 or Caravan, as opposed to a Cessna 182. With respect to the amphib, you would need to receive instruction on how to perform takeoffs and landings, as well.

I understand the Wow factor involved, but suggest getting the endorsement in something much simpler.
