Getting Current after several years

Asked by: 1940 views Airspace, General Aviation, Private Pilot, Weather

I am a low time private pilot, 300+ hrs fixed wing. 200+ hrs helicopter,  I have not been current since 1992. I have just got my Class 3 medical and requested a new plastic ticket. My question is: What path should I take to get back up to speed with the current system and get current?

Other than get your head back in the game with some good aviation magazines and some Wings credit courses (and there is only going around in rusty pilots), I generally recommend two things,

    1. Take a practice FAA knowledge (“written”) test, provided free by a number of online sources. That’s not with an expectation of doing well, but simply to guide your study.

    2. Get together with a good CFI. An initial flight or two will tell both of you the level of rust. A targeted recurrence program should be the result.
