Keeping track

Any suggestion out there on how best to keep track of student progress?  I have a variety of students, all at different phases of training and it would be helpful to have a master “binder” or something to help keep track of everybody.  I would rather not recreate the wheel if possible!

thanks in advance!

    Keep it simple.

What kind of syllabus are you using? If one of the commerically-available ones, most I’ve seen have some sort of a “syllabus summary” or “lesson time summary” or similar that you could just print out and check off the lessons as they are complete. Jeppesen, for example, still has that giant, fold-out “Student Record Folder” that you may have seen.

If you’ve developed your own syllabus, it wouldn’t be too hard to make a simple check-off list as well.

I also keep notes on what we did each flight, how the student did, what needs work, and what we need to do next time. That could be in any format you choose. I’ll often review that myself before a flight.
