Commercial aeronautical experience: 129(b)(4)(i) & (ii)

My question is in regards to the solo requirements[61.129(b)(4)]for commercial pilot license.

(i) is the long solo xc flight

(ii) is 5 hours of night solo with 10 take off and landing at controlled field 

Can I complete my long xc at night and complete some of the night time required as well? Does anyone have a reference?

I understand that you can not double up between flight training logged[61.129(b)(3)] and solo required [61.129(b)(4)].  I can not find any reference to my question in the FAQ’s or anywhere for that matter.

    Yes, you can do this, there is no prohibition against it. These are “aeronautical experience” requirements, not “training” requirements. So you just have to have done these things at some point in your piloting life.

    So if you’ve done some night/towered field/solo landings before, they count towards this number.

    But even if you didn’t have any of these landings at all, you could still knock out both requirements completely on one flight, if you wanted to.

    Thanks Russ. That is what I was hoping to hear!
    Now as far as those night landings, am I correct in saying that I can not count the ones that I logged for my private requirements? They would have to be ones logged after my private check ride.

    You can count those private pilot night landings. As Russ mentioned it is an experience requirement and can be from any point in your training. This is a good example for those planning on pursuing advanced ratings, by looking ahead you can in effect, double up, on some requirements by planning flights carefully to complete experience requirements. Often by doing a longer cross country, night flights, landings at a towered field are a couple examples.
