Asked by: 2003 views FAA Regulations

When is the deciding point for if I have to earn 1250 or 1500 hours for ATP? After what rating or what point in my training?

61.153 gives you the general requirements for the ATP. The difference between the 1250 and 1500 hour requirement basically comes down to whether or not you are enrolled in and graduate from an institution of higher education with a major in aviation. You can read the specifics on this in FAR 61.160. So it is not a point in training or after a specific rating, but rather whether or not you are in a recognized college program. Good luck with your training, airlines are hiring now and are looking for both restricted and unrestricted ATP holders, and will provide the ATP training required for the certificate in some cases.
