Cessna 172s fuel system; reservoir tank connection to main fuel tanks.

Above is the link to the Cessna172S fuel schematic, and I cam up with a unusual thing that fuel reservoir has a connection to main tank fuel, the plumbing that jumps over fuel selector and connected to the mian fuel tank.

I want to know why it is connected and how it works.

    I think you will find that this is an air connection only and serves as a vent for the reservoir tank.
