Renting issues

Asked by: 2800 views FAA Regulations, Private Pilot

so before I go flying I want to check on something. If I want to fly a friend of mine to another city to take his check ride, but he pays 100% of the rental cost and I'm just flying because I wanted to. What are the rules behind this? I have read 61.113 and am looking for clarification. He is in no way paying me or hiring me for this trip.

You mentioned 61.113, which leads me to believe you only have a Private certificate. If this is the case, then the flight would not be allowed. The FAA has consistently held that accrual of flight time is considered to be compensation.

May I ask a question? Why are you flying him to his checkride? Most applicants fly =themselves= to their checkrides.

I don’t see any gray area here. The FAA would most definitely see this as compensation.
