    Barring in mind that I was not there and as such cannot verify any of this here are my thoughts:

    1) You couldn’t maintain altitude but we’re flying at 90 when, as I recall, Vy is somewhere around 65-70.

    2) Your instructor waited till it was that bad out to return.

    3) He landed a 150 at 80 knots with a tailwind.

    Sounds like an accident report or dozen I have read. If you’re sure you saw what you posted here I’d be shopping for a new Cfi. The landing at 80 alone would be it for me, that’s a few knots below your cruising speed in that bird!

    I second the idea that it sounds like some bad decisions may have been made by the cfi. The idea that you are safe landing on a road when you are forced down by downdrafts is borderline preposterous. If what you are saying is an accurate decision a long talk about safety with your cfi is in order.
