Flight Reimbursement

Asked by: 3203 views
FAA Regulations, Student Pilot

If you are a lawyer, can you be reimbursed to fly to see a client? Can you bring an assistant with you? Can you be paid to deliver a package for a friend since you are already going? Thanks, Jared

I am assuming that you are asking the question in the context of a Private Pilot.

    See the Mangiamele interpretation:

    http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/agc/pol_adjudication/agc200/interpretations/data/interps/2009/mangiamele%20-%20(2009)%20legal%20interpretation.pdf

It says that you may be compensated for the expense of the flight, but you may not carry passengers. Likewise, you may not transport a package, because that would constitute carrying property for compensation or hire.

If I had a friend who needed a package delivered and I were traveling anyway, I would not charge my friend for delivering a package.

If you are a lawyer, shouldn’t you be able be able to answer that question yourself instead of asking for legal advice from SGOTI? 🙂
