    A seemingly simple question. The answer is not so simple.

    If we look at the lift equation, in order to keep lift constant, as the air density decreases (altitude increases), the true airspeed needs to increase.

    As weight decreases, the amount of lift required decreases (Lift = Weight). This would mean that the required true airspeed would decrease.

    Vyse as you will use it is displayed as an indicated airspeed. As such, it will decrease with an increase in altitude.

    From a practical standpoint, you could say that Vyse decreases with an increase in altitude and decreases with a decrease in weight.

    Looking at the Single Engine climb data in the Aztec POH and a King Air 200 POH, this is borne out.

    Looking at climb performance for a Cessna 152 shows indicated climb speed decreasing with altitude.
