Can I email my student pilot an endorsement?

Asked by: 9924 views Flight Instructor

I was wondering if I can email my student an endorsement, and if that would count as okay if my student got ramp checked by the FAA or something. My student has a repeat cross country endorsement to the airport we train at, and he wants to stop on the way there at a different airport to do some landing practice, and he doesn't have an endorsement for that airport.

As long as your “e-mail” includes all the parts of an endorsement:
Each endorsement must be legible and include the instructor’s signature, date of signature, certificated flight instructor (CFI) or certificated ground instructor (CGI) certificate number, and certificate expiration date, if applicable.
So a text e-mail isn’t going to cut it, but a scanned image would work. in the good old days we would have called this “a FAX”. I can’t find anything that says a copy isn’t OK – people copy their logbooks all the time with the idea that in the event they lose their primary logbook the copy will suffice.

Sure thing! Just as long as it’s signed and everything is there!

I have done this quite often
