61 private – 141 for rest Can I save a few bucks not flying all with the school?

I'm enrolled to enter a fight school 141 rated in the fall. I have earned my private In  a piper warrior this year at a part 61 school at my local airport.  I know I need to do the rest if my training (dual) at the college. The problem being they fly all new planes. I will bring doing my training in Cessna 172's.   My question. Can the college not grant me the 1000 hour ATP if I perform my cross countries for instrument/commercial in a non school owned aircraft.  They only instruct in theirs but solos?  The rental rate is $150 /hr then $50 for instruction.   Another airport has a friend who owns an older Cessna 172, nothing fancy. Instrument rated. No hi tech GPS but personally I liked my map better. (The warrior had more advanced instruments) the cost is $85/hr.  I was told by one of the owners friends we can buy block hours for cheaper, the airport gets little use by small planes and hardly rents. Plus I was told to offer to rent Dry for even less and top off the gas to avoid landing fees during cross counties.  That could cut at $450 dollar flight into under $200!   So my questions.

1. What's a good price to offer him to rent this 172 dry?

2. Can I still get a 1000 hr ATP as long as all training is done at school?

I will still use this Cessna for fun flying, $150 /hr is not in a college budget for fun flights or getting practice before school in the fall.

thanks for the help!.

Ask the 141 school that you are going to. Each 141 certificate is different. Most schools will require you to complete each lesson in the syllabus to graduate. The course can be approved with limited credit given for outside flying, but again, this is course specific.
