KSMO Departure

Asked by: 3553 views Instrument Rating

Hello,

IFR Departure on KSMO (Santa Monica) goes on SADDEE intersection, far away Norh Ouest on the coast, and I want to fly south. On top of that, the 2 only IFR departures are only for turbo prop or jet

Anyone have experience on IFR dep at KSMO for C 172

Thank you

You must be talking about the PEEER TWO and PEVEE TWO departures. They are for turboprop and jet aircraft.

In the takeoff minimums section of the NACO procedures book, there is a departure procedure listed which also takes you to SADDE intersection.

You want to go south. If you look to the south from Santa Monica (SMO) about 4 nautical miles, you will see Los Angeles Internaitonal airport (LAX). This is the reason why no departure from SMO will take you south. They won’t be stopping traffic at LAX to allow you to proceed southbound.

It would appear that to go southbound, you would look at the Tower Enroute Control routes in the A/FD. These will take you out east of LAX and then southbound.
