Foreign add-on rating

Asked by: 3336 views Commercial Pilot, FAA Regulations, General Aviation, Private Pilot

Hello everybody,

I hold a foreign based private (from the EASA) and a stand alone FAA commercial pilot ASEL. If I add an EASA multi engine rating on my EASA private in Europe, is it possible to have it added it on my FAA commercial as an add-on rating?

Thanks,

Pipa

    Pipa,

The only way to add a rating to your unrestricted U.S. Commercial certificate would be to comply with the requirements of 61.63. That would mean getting the appropriate training and taking a practical test. 61.41 allows you to use training received in a foreign country. So, at a minimum you would need to get enough training from a U.S. instructor to allow him/her to recommend and endorse you for the practical test and then pass that practical test.

Alternatively, you could add the rating to your foreign based U.S. Private certificate by completing the process you followed for its original issuance.
