Propeller blade angle 172RG

Asked by: 3804 views ,

Why is the propeller blade angle in the 172RG measured at the 30 inch station? I see it mentioned under the power plant limitations in the POH. Isn't blade angle measured at a specific point along the length of the blade?

I’m not sure I understand your question – as you say in your second question, since the blade angle of a propeller changes with distance from the hub, they have to pick somewhere to measure it for reference. In the case of the 172RG, they are measuring it at the “30-inch station”, which means 30 inches out from the beginning of the blade (or the center of the hub – I’m not exactly sure, but that’s the idea).

Or is your question “why 30 inches and not 28 inches or 33 inches or some other number”?

All clear now. Could not figure earlier from where exactly was the measurement taken. Thank you Russ!
