Age to train for an Air Traffic Controller Career?

Asked by: 3400 views
FAA Regulations, General Aviation

Howdy Folks.

I am student of Aviation without the resources to afford to fly. So I thought of becoming an Air Traffic Controller then learning to fly with the money from that job.

I am reading that you must be 30 or under to start training for an Air Traffic Controller career??? Is this really True? I'm 36 and a bit saddened by this if it is really true.

Yup, that’s true. If you read the Air Traffic Controller page on the FAA’s career site, you’ll see the second bullet-point of the requirements is to, “start at the FAA Academy no later than your 31st birthday.” http://www.faa.gov/jobs/career_fields/aviation_careers/

It is true, and a product of mandatory retirement ages for ATC.
