Ground Effect Clarity

I understand the theory of ground effect except one component of which is upwash. I understand what upwash is but would like to know in simple terms how upwash is altered in ground effect.

    Figure 6.9 of Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators (AFNA) shows exactly how upwash is effected when an aircraft enters ground effect. See this link: http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/media/00-80t-80.pdf

    The AOA is reduced due to the change in local relative wind. The picture is pretty explicit on this. Have a read through the other 3 pages and that should clarify any other questions you have on this topic.
