FAF to MAP on an approach chart

Why do some approach charts not have the FAF to MAP time table at the bottom. Specifically I see 2 VOR/DMA approaches and 1 has the usual table for time from FAF to MAP for 60/90/120/.... knots, but the other does not. Even more specifically, KEIK has a VOR/DME approach and the table of times is not there, yet a KLMO VOR/DME approach does have it. Why on 1 but not the other?

    Does one allow the approach to be used even if the DME out of service?

    Both only have circling mins and no separate minimums entry for without/DME. Both have VOR/DME-A as their name which to me means DME required. Both happen to be off the same VOR (here in northern-ish Colorado). I don’t see any text that says anything referring to “if DME out of service…”. Nothing. So that’s why its confusing to me and I am interested in knowing (also so I can explain to my student who asked :)).

    Matthew, it’s a good question. I can’t think of a reason for the presence of a timing chart on an approach that requires DME for the final approach course (but I’m no TERPS guru).

    But there are errors on approach charts from time to time. We had a discussion there some time ago about the difference in depiction of a teardrop on approach charts – three different chats with 3 different depictions. . Kicked it back and forth but, as it turned out, it was a charting error.

    The FAA charting office is very good at responding to inquiries and NOTAM’ing changes. Send them an email and ask — 9-AMC-Aerochart@faa.gov

    Thanks for the FAA email address. I did get a response after a few days:
    You are correct and the consistency is in question here. There is currently a FDC NOTAM 4/4384 on line for the VOR/DME-A at LMO removing the Time Table which makes it consistent with the EIK procedure.

    Here is the NOTAM:
    !FDC 4/4384 LMO IAP VANCE BRAND, LONGMONT, CO. VOR/DME A, AMDT 2… TERMINAL ROUTE JEFFCO (BJC) VOR/DME TO ALFIE MINIMUM ALTITUDE 7100. DELETE DISTANCE FAF TO MAP: 5.98. THIS IS VOR/DME A, AMDT 2A. 1401271758-PERM

    So case closed, at least I am not losing my mind 🙂
