    Per 14 CFR 99.11, you MUST file a flight plan. It can be a DVFR or IFR.

    Thank you for your reply Kris. I need to ask you if flying under a DVFR flight plan is any different from flying under a VFR flight plan in an ADIZ?

    See AIM Chapter 5, Section 6. There are requirements for position reporting and position tolerances.
