Endorsements for PTS

Asked by: 3576 views , ,
FAA Regulations, Flight Instructor

what is the time limitation  on an endorsement for the practice test for an additional rating?

For example. Could a student applying for an instrument rating have received a sign off to take the practical and oral test 5 to 8 months ago and then only require to show he has received 3 hrs with a flight instructor in preparation for the oral and practical exam?

There is no timeframe specified for the endorsement required by 61.65(a)(6).

There is a timeframe of 2 calendar months within which the instruction in preparation for the practical test must be given.

Theoretically, you could have completed your instruction 8 months ago and received the endorsement stating that you are prepared for the practical according to 61.65(a)(6). You could go beyond the 8 months.

If you then get the 3 hours of instruction in preparation for the practical within 2 calendar months required by 61.65(d)(2)(i) and 61.39(a)(6), you could take the practical test.

The instructor who would be recommending you for the practical might not be willing to sign you off with just 3 hours within 2 calendar months.

What results would you expect on the practical test from this hypothetical situation?
