Is G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide the required document on board a C172R NAVIII airplane? Where can I find the regulatory requirements? Thank you!

In your POH, there is a Limitations section. It is regulatory according to FAR 23.1583. I don’t have a copy of the POH for the G1000 C172, but I do have a copy of the G36 Bonanza that has a G1000 system. In the Limitations section of my POH, there is a General section. Item 1. in that section reads: “Garmin G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide for the Beechcraft Bonanza A36/G36, must be immediately available to the flight crew”. It then lists various software versions and the corresponding Cockpit Guide P/N. The choice of the word “must” makes it mandatory.

I have a C172S POH. (PN 172SIMAUS). The cockpit reference guide is located in two places in the book.

First, in the comprehensive equipment list on page 6-19 it states “Garmin Cockpit Reference Guide (stowed in cockpit side panel) is required.

The second location is in the Kinds of Operation equipment list located on 2-12 and states the Garmin G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide must be made available to the pilots in flight.

As John said, this document is required and the airplane cannot legally takeoff without it.

This is not just the case for the G1000, but almost every glass panel if I have flown and most other STCed avionics such as after market autopilots and GPS.
