What is the difference between leaning for power and leaning for economy?

    Leaning for power gives the airplane a couple more knots and uses more fuel. Leaning for economy saves fuel.

    You will need to check the POH for the procedure but most will be something like this:

    To lean for power at cruise bring back the mixture till peak EGT or engine roughness and then push the mixture forward halfway.

    To lean for economy at cruise bring back the mixture till peak EGT or engine roughness and then slowly push the mixture in till the EGT drops 50 deg and engine roughness has smoothed out.
