Switching back to tower.

Asked by: 4225 views General Aviation

While flying into POU yesterday twr advised RT onto RWY33 and contact ground.  Ground advised RT on D, RT on B and hold short of 24 and that's it.  While holding short at 24 I stayed with ground waiting for him to advise contact tower, are you supposed to switch back to tower as soon as you are in line for the hold short?

Don’t ever be afraid to ask the last controller, if you are confused, whom you should contact. Better to speak up and get transferred to another frequency than to either block the way for others in silence or worse, encroach on an active runway. You will never get chastised for asking for a clarification.

The job of the ground controller is to organize the ground traffic and get each aircraft and other ground vehicles to their destinations safely and efficiently, while keeping the runways clear for landing and departing traffic.  Once you have reached your destination for departure, switching to the appropriate controller, in this case the tower or “local” controller, is appropriate and expected.  You might not be number 1 for departure but letting to tower controller know you are “ready in sequence” makes his/her job a lot easier, and you wait time much shorter.
