DPE’s signature on my logbook after CFI-I checkride?

Asked by: 8874 views Flight Instructor

Do I need to get DPE's signature on my logbook after CFI-I checkride?

If I didn't get one on my logbook, should I go back and get it?

Thanks!

I don’t think so.  He/She wasn’t giving you instruction and you were pilot in command.  If he/she acted as a safety pilot for part of the practical test, you are required to log this in your logbook, not him/her.

    Thank your for your answer!
What about CFI-A checkride?  DPE’s signature required on my logbook?

I don’t have any DPE signatures in my logbooks for Private, Commercial, Instrument, Multi-Engine, CFI or CFII.

I recall that the Pilot Examiner’s Handbook used to recommend to the Examiner that he should sign the logbook or flight record, but there is no requirement that the pilot actually have this entry.  I don’t see this recommendation in the current Pilot Examiner’s Handbook.

I have such entries for most (all?) of my checkrides and I think that many of my students do as well.  It may vary from examiner to examiner as to how religiously they do this.  Perhaps it’s bit old school.

If you don’t have them, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

Way too late on this, but, it IS required that a DPE sign your logbook. Here is the guidance: Sign an entry in the applicant’s records after the practical test. That entry must show the type of test, the duration of the flight portion, the unsatisfactory/satisfactory outcome of the test, and the designee’s designation number.

    It is found here; http://fsims.faa.gov/wdocs/orders/8900_2.htm
