Requesting traffic advisories for sightseeing
Asked by: Doug Dunston 4239 views General Aviation, Private Pilot
I'm planning a short sightseeing flight, starting from a class D airport that is near a class C airport. This particular class D airport isn't able to do a handoff to approach for flight following (I think it has to do with their letters of agreement), so I usually call up approach when the tower has approved my frequency change.
Usually, I've been headed to a destination airport, but in this case, I'll just be looking around at some fall color and then heading back.
After initial contact with approach, could I request something like, "XXX approach, Skyhawk XXX is just off KKKK, passing 7500 climbing 9500, heading 30 miles northwest for sightseeing, request traffic advisories"?
