61.195(h)(2) would seem to say otherwise. Not that you, as a CFI couldn’t give the student instruction, just that such instruction wouldn’t count as the instruction towards the initial CFI.

So, you could teach the student whatever you wanted, but they would still have to get some instruction from a CFI with more than 200hrs of dual instruction and who’s had their CFI for more than 2 years.

I agree with Bob here. The only exception here would be if the training was to be conducted under part 141. But I really don’t think that’s the case here.

You are correct – you can give as much instruction as you want towards the students CFI. However, you cannot meet any of the training requirements called out for the 200+ hour CFI, so as pointed out by others the student would need to get that instruction from a qualified instructor.

Unless you meet the requirements of 61.195(h)(2) for Part 61 or 61.195(h)(3) for Part 141, you may not give any flight instruction to an applicant for an initial CFI.  You may not give any ground instruction ro the applicant unless you meet the requirements of 61.195(h)(1).
The required training is spelled out in 61.187 and all the training must be given by an instructor who meets the above requirements.  If each required area cannot be documented to have been performed by an appropriately qualified instructor, the practical test will not be started.
