In flying I have learned that carelessness and overconfidence are usually far more dangerous than deliberately accepted risks.

From Ernest Gann – “Flying Circus”
“There are airmen and there are pilots: the first being part bird whose view from aloft is normal and comfortable, a creature whose brain and muscles frequently originate movements which suggest flight; and then there are pilots who regardless of their airborne time remain earth-loving bipeds forever.  When these latter unfortunates, because of one urge or another, actually make an ascension, they neither anticipate nor relish the event and they drive their machines with the same graceless labor they inflict on the family vehicle.”

A couple of my favorites I’ve picked up along the way….

It’s better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
The only time a plane has too much fuel is when it’s on fire.

And one of my personal favorites was the first question the DPE on my oral exam for my instrument rating.  He asked….”What makes a plane fly?” I went into the whole spiel about lift, bernoulli’s principle, etc.  The examiner says, “No, the correct answer is Money.”
