How much power an jet engine generator produces?

Asked by: 7680 views Aircraft Systems, Commercial Pilot, General Aviation

Like how much an 737 engine generator produces? Doesn´t have to be 737-s generator, any other plane will do too.

If you can believe any thing you find on the internet, http://www.b737.org.uk/images/schemeelectxt.gif shows a couple of 125 Amp, 115-v AC generators.

Okay so its about 14.3kW. How many households this could power, if any?

    Hi Holger.

If I recall correctly, the average North American household draws about 40 kW during peak hours (morning:  lights, cooking, running hot water, etc.), but much lower during other parts of the day.  Are you trying to find out how many houses the generator itself can power, or how many houses the engine could power if all of it’s power were redirected into generators?  In an actual aircraft setup, the generator draws a very small percentage of the available engine power.

Further, an aircraft engine makes for a very poor electricity generating station.  Industrial gas turbines used for electricity generation include cycle enhancements such as reheat and intercooling, both of which reduce fuel consumption but are usually impractical in aircraft applications.

    Cheers,
    Steve
