Looking to build hours quick.

Asked by: 761 views FAA Regulations

I’m going to state a bunch of things that may or may not matter:

I’m a CFI and I own an Experimental Vans aircraft. I’m thinking about looking for someone that needs a Safety Pilot (me) and they could “rent” my plane for around $80 per hour (wet). I do not intend to act as a CFI.

Am I allowed to do this?
Do I need a 100 hour inspection?

I can legally log PIC when they are under the hood, right?

The $80 per hour would cover about 80% of the operating expenses. I would cover the other 20%. I can do this as a commercial pilot, right?

Any ideas that might work better?

Im new so please be kind. I don’t know everything and may have completely overlooked some of the regulations. That’s why I’m seeking help here. Thank you!

i’m not a cfi, but i am a commercial pilot.

this is definitely in the, “talk to your local fsdo” territory. I suspect the answer to “am I allowed to do this” is, “no”. because:

    1. you said you’re not providing instruction, so 119.1 doesn’t apply (i’m assuming you’re not trying to wriggle some “within 25 nm” commercial air tour thing)
    2. you’re paying less than your pro rata share
    3. you’re receiving something of value (hours).
