Which certificate should be prepared for a Pilot who has Certificate of Helicopter for operating SEL

Asked by: 1234 views Flight Instructor, Helicopter, Private Pilot

I am a flight instructor. One of my student who has already helicopter private pilot license wants to add additional category rating of SEL on his given Private pilot certificate. In that case, is it okay that I give him training with his own helicopter private license or does he have to issue something else for training in relation to Pilot Certificate.

I’m not sure what you are asking but suspect the answer is in the parts of 61.63 that apply to “Additional aircraft category rating”.

If you are asking if he needs a student certificate, no. He already has a private certificate and, unless the FAA revokes it it he surrenders it for some reason, will never be a “student pilot” again.

If he holds a Rotorcraft – Helicopter rating at the private (or above) level he can add airplane to that certificate. No knowledge test is required. Look at §61.63 (b).
